چکیده
An idealized model for turbulent ames is introduced It consists of a scalar advection reaction di usion equation that describes the inter action of a thin ame with a turbulent like ow eld acting on two separate scales Rigorous asymptotic results as well as a ordable and reliable direct numerical simulations are available to describe the e ec tive large scale behavior of the idealized front a strategy is proposed to use this framework to validate closure models for more realistic turbu lent ames Examples are given to illustrate the strategy as applied to premixed ames

Investigation of strategies for the parallel implementation of ISAT in LES/FDF/ISAT computations
The LES/FDF approach for turbulent combustion offers the benefits of both large eddy simulation (LES) to treat the turbulent flow, and the PDF approach to treat turbulence-chemistry interactions (in terms of the filtered density function, FDF). The approach is implemented as a particle mesh method and computationally the most expensive aspect is determining the change in particle composition ov...
متن کاملLES modeling for lifted turbulent jet flames
The LES method is an attractive approach for the simulation of turbulent jet flames. In this method, the effects of large scale structures controlling the mixing process are resolved while small-scale effects such as the leading-edge flames involved in the flame base dynamics are accounted for by the subgrid-scale models. The LES approach is examined in this study with a particular emphasis on ...
متن کاملAn Irregularly Portioned Lagrangian Monte Carlo Method for Turbulent Flow Simulation
A novel computational methodology, termed “Irregularly Portioned Lagrangian Monte Carlo” (IPLMC) is developed for large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flows. This methodology is intended for use in the filtered density function (FDF) formulation and is particularly suitable for simulation of chemically reacting flows on massively parallel platforms. The IPLMC facilitates efficient simulatio...
متن کاملLarge-eddy simulations of turbulent reacting stagnation point flows
A methodology for solving unsteady premixed turbulent flame propagation problems in high Reynolds number (Re), high Damkohler number (Da) spatially evolving flows is developed. The method is based on Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) with a subgrid combustion model based on the Linear-Eddy Model (Kerstein, 1991). An inter-LES cell burning mechanism has been added to the present formulation to account...
متن کاملNinth International Workshop on Measurement and Computation of Turbulent Nonpremixed Flames
The series of workshops on Measurement and Computation of Turbulent Nonpremixed Flames (TNF) is intended to facilitate collaboration and information exchange among experimental and computational researchers in the field of turbulent combustion. The emphasis is on fundamental issues of turbulence-chemistry interaction. In past workshops these issues have been explored through collaborative compa...
